This book explores multicultural assessment and presents general and instrument-specific guidelines for practice with multicultural populations. Part 1 provides a framework for multicultural assessment training using three standard instruments. Chapters address standard assessment training, specific knowledge of worldviews and belief systems, and assessment biases and cultural competence. Chapter 4 presents the Multicultural Assessment-Intervention Process model and provides guidelines for the consideration of language skills, cultural competencies, cultural and racial identity, standard and emic instruments, DSM-IV diagnosis, test-specific interpretation recommendations, reports, and feedback of assessment findings. Part 2 includes four chapters that describe orientation questions and moderators, as well as instrument-specific guidelines for stepwise procedure with standard instruments, including the Rorschach and the Rorschach Comprehensive System (CS), the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory (MMPI), and the Thematic Apperception Tests (TAT). Part 3 presents examples of multicultural practice applications employing culture information. Data sets are included as examples as well as procedures for using moderators in test and interview format and other cultural information as a basis for the preparation of responsible assessment reports. Chapters include a case study of the use of the MMPI-2 English-language version in Singapore, interpretation of Spanish and English Rorschach CS and TAT protocols, the use of CS, TAT, and MMPI-2 by a Filipino American, and Rorschach CS usage with Greek urban and rural individuals.
