A study of 369 Portuguese adolescents in residential care institutions tested the suitability of a dual-factor model with young people in care, and explored how different mental health groups may differ on social support dimensions from different sources. Findings indicate that two-dimensional models show better fit statistics than the one-dimensional model. The importance of focusing on well-being outcomes together with psychological difficulties in order to obtain a more accurate snapshot of young people's mental health in care is discussed. 5 tables and 42 references.
