This article reviews the following information necessary to given informed consent to psychotropic medications for foster children: the nature of the problem, the proposed treatment, expected benefits, possible risks, possible alternatives, and decision of the appropriate consenting person. Elements involved in collaborating and communicating with medical providers are then discussed.
