Mental Health, Behavioral and Developmental Needs of Foster Children.

This Michigan policy document reviews rules that require all children entering foster care to have a mental health screening within 30 days of removal and that the mental health screening is to be performed during initial and subsequent periodic or yearly well child exams. Regulations are explained that address: the recommended screening instrument, the caseworker's role in the mental health screening process, mental and behavioral health access and services, the role of the Community Mental Health Service Provider, the serious emotional disturbance waiver, psychological evaluation for MCI wards, psychiatric hospitalization, DHS contracted counseling or therapy services, fair market contracted mental health services, services for children with developmental disabilities, Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder and the caseworker's role in screening.
