Intended for child welfare agencies in California, this report explains the California Foster Youth FAFSA Challenge designed specifically to support high school seniors in foster care to access financial aid by providing the resources and information foster youth need to accurately complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) or California Dream Act Application (CADAA). Information is provided on how the challenge program works, the availability of 30 $500 scholarships for high school seniors in participating counties who complete the FAFSA or Dream Act Application during the challenge, as well as grants of $1,000 to the three participating counties with the highest rates of FAFSA/CADAA completion. Strategies for helping foster youth complete applications and the roles of the Foster Youth Services Coordinators and community partners are discussed, and ways to develop workshops and events on FAFSA are highlighted. Finally, FAFSA completion tips are reviewed and answers to questions about FAFSA/CADAA are provided. A list of additional resources is included.
