This fact sheet explains the John H. Chafee Foster Care Program for Successful Transition to Adulthood (Chafee program) that provides funds to States, territories, and Indian tribal entities with material and other supports for current and former foster youth. It reviews legislative changes to the Chafee program that authorize the Chafee Educational and Training Voucher program and provisions that focus supports more clearly on youth who spend time in foster care at age 14 or older. The types of supports States can fund under the program are described, as well as eligibility for the supports, the functions of the National Youth in Transitional Database, authorized funding, evaluation activities, and related federal programs and policies. 2 tables.
