A study examined the transition to adult life from the perspective of young people leaving foster care. Data was analyzed from 21 studies and indicate: care leavers found the care leaving process was an unprepared and unfocused process which did not provide them with opportunities for participating in the decision-making concerning their future, they had acquired few survival skills for independent living in aftercare, and they often lacked the support of family members, former care providers, and institutional bodies. 3 tables and 55 references.
