An overview is provided of key provisions of the California’s Reunifying Immigrant Families Act that specify courts may extend reunification periods of immigrant families due to barriers imposed by immigration detention or deportation. It describes court requirements at initial dispositions, up to 12 months of care, at 12 months, and at 18 months.
