This brief includes scripts judges and social workers can use to explain concurrent planning to parents involved in the child welfare system. The first script presented is intended for judges and discusses the importance of placement stability for child development and the need for a Plan B from the beginning of the case in case family reunification is not possible. Information is provided on meeting parental needs and parental advocacy. The second script is designed for social workers, providers, and attorneys to use following the judge’s explanation of concurrent planning. In this script, advocates acknowledge parental anxiety and fear, reinforce family reunification is the desired outcomes, and emphasize the importance of parental visits.
