This special journal issue explores emerging areas of next-generation child maltreatment (CM) research to better evaluate the field’s current progress in technology applications. Following an introduction, the first article provides objective data on adherence to home collection of diurnal cortisol among maltreating families via the application of an electronic monitoring device. Next articles address: engagement and adherence with an e-parenting program promoting child well-being; long-term impact of a cell phone-enhanced parenting interventions; engagement and effects of a remote parenting intervention on parent behavior and child abuse potential; trauma-focused cognitive-behavioral therapy delivered via Telehealth technology; technology to augment early home visitation for child maltreatment prevention; and a technology-mediated approach to the implementation of an evidence=based child maltreatment prevention program. The articles confirm that the field has moved beyond descriptive and proof-of-concept research to a new generation of technology research employing methodology to assess child maltreated-related physiological outcomes, evaluate effectiveness and efficacy of technology-enhanced and -delivered child maltreatment interventions, and address barriers to the implementation of evidence-based practice.
