This book explores ethical issues in human trafficking research involving children and adults, and highlights best practices and challenges. Following an introduction, Part 1 explores ethical dilemmas in research on sex trafficking and the sex industry at large. Chapters discuss the ethics of researching women trafficked for commercial sexual exploitation, researching the sex industry and trafficking, ethnographic research on the sex industry and the ambivalence of ethical guidelines, the triple taboo of ethnicity, crime, and sex work, and the ethical minefield in human trafficking research. Part 2 focuses on labor trafficking and includes chapters on negotiating anonymity, informed consent, and illegality among refugees and asylum seekers in the United Kingdom; ethics, methods, and moving standards in research on migrant workers and forced labor; doing no harm in research with trafficked persons; and trust, rapport, and ethics in human trafficking research with male laborers from South Asia in Singapore. Part 3 includes chapters on ethical dilemmas in child trafficking research. Chapters discuss the experience and impact in research with survivors of slavery, reciprocity, science, and engagement in the study of child sex trafficking, and ethical dilemmas of doing field work with youth in sex markets in the United States. The final part includes chapters on ethical dilemmas in organ trafficking, including the ethics involved in searching for kidney sellers and in adopting heretical methods. (Numerous references)
