This chapter explains that when an age assessment of an unaccompanied minor is conducted in the United Kingdom, there must be a consideration of the trauma experienced by many unaccompanied young people: the age assessment meeting should be a formality that takes place within broader multidisciplinary practice that focuses on the young person’s overall needs and processes to ensure that identified needs are met regardless of the outcome of the assessment; and social workers should be required to undergo specialist training to carry them out. 24 references.
