This chapter explores the experiences of refugees, asylum seekers, and migrants in the context of austerity. It discusses the dual impacts of austerity and a hostile immigration system, and highlights the importance of looking at experiences with a transnational awareness and building an understanding of the multiple and intersecting inequalities. The impact of precarity on the mental health of refugees, asylum seekers, and migrants is considered, particularly the hierarchical rights afforded by legal immigration status and the gendered nature of inequalities. 29 references.
