This chapter reviews tasks that are required for conducting transdisciplinary research with an eye toward developing capabilities to translate basic science to practice in the behavioral sciences, including: identify gene-environmental interactions in antisocial behavior, disaggregate the population on the basis of underlying conditions, predict intervention outcome on the basis of underlying conditions, determine whether prevention and treatment interventions produce measurable changes in vulnerability markers, and identify the effects of social and environmental stressors. It then discusses directions for investigation and strategies for structuring the science to meet field demands. Numerous references.
