This chapter explores whether violence against children is increasing. It reviews conceptual and methodological challenges, considers what is known about levels of violence, reviews findings from community-based surveys on violence against children, and discusses developmental risks, the overlapping and accumulating nature of victimization and polyvictimization experiences, and research on trends in violence. Implications for practice are considered. 2 tables and 55 references.
