This webpage explains the efforts of the federally funded Family Resource Centers (FRCs) to continue to support and strengthen families during the COVID-19 pandemic. It notes there are more than 3,000 FRCs in 30 States and the District of Columbia that work with more than 2 million people annually. The types of services FRCs provide are described and include parenting support, helping families to build protective factors, connecting families to resources, and developing community leadership. These services have resulted in reducing child abuse, increasing families economic self-sufficiency, and improving children’s educational success. Specific strategies FRCs are using to help parents and caregivers during the COVID-19 pandemic are then explained and include helping parents and caregivers access supports, resources, and accurate information, hosting helplines, expanding resource lists, and combating social isolation by checking-in regularly with families, conducting virtual home visits, and organizing video support groups. Efforts by Kentucky’s 856 school-based FRCs to deliver school meals to children and organize Drive-by Cheer-ups, and efforts by FRCs in Colorado and California to leverage State funds to provide services are highlighted.
