This fact sheet lists legal resources that can be used to provide high-quality legal representation for families during the COVID-19 pandemic. Resources are listed that provide links to federal guidance that addresses: refraining from blanket orders for ceasing, suspending, or postponing court hearings and reducing or suspending family visitation during the COVID-19 pandemic, the use of technology for court hearings, federal funding for cell phones and personal protection equipment, then handling child welfare cases, and family integrity. A second list of resources provides links to sample advocacy tools for child advocacy during the COVID-19 pandemic, and following lists provide links to resources on sample emergency court orders and rules and conducting virtual visitation. A list of resources for working with and advocating for foster children and youth is then provided, as well as a list of helpful advocacy tips for making an emergency plan with youth in congregate care, working with older youth, ensuring clients have access to technology, resources for parents impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic and child welfare services, conducting effective remote hearings in child welfare cases, and privacy considerations for remote client conversations. The final list includes helpful websites for juvenile and family court judges and attorneys.
