This document describes the training plan of the Virginia Division of Family Services (DFS) for 2021. It explains child welfare training for local department staff that originates from the Virginal Department of Social Services (VDSS) is not developed entirely either within the DFS, initiated at local departments of social services (LDSS), or through the newly established Division of Workforce Development and Support (WDS). The training plan notes the mandated, pre-service competency-based CORE child welfare training system is fully integrated into DFS and delivered by a team of five curriculum developers, with the addition of one prevention curriculum developer to support the implementation of the Family First Prevention Services Act. Information is provided on: the training reorganization under the WDS; the process to promote the transfer of learning; the revised supervisory series and the new Leadership Institute; the new trainer credentialing project; ongoing advanced training of trainers; the new course and microlearning development; the family services mandated training evaluation; the weekly WDS training dashboard; new in-home services training; pre-services training revisions needed to support in-home services; and foster and adoptive parent training. The Virginia Title IV-E Child Welfare Stipend Program (CWSP) is highlighted and it is noted that in 2020, 67 students were enrolled in the CWSP across the five partner universities, a total of 48 CWSP students graduated, 63 new students were accepted for the program, and a total of 75 CWSP students enrolled in the 2020-21 academic year. Final sections describe the Child Welfare Employee Education Assistance Program and LDSS training initiatives.
