The Nebraska Children and Families Foundation worked with its community partners and State and local governmental agencies to establish playbooks to help synthesize the emergent needs of Nebraskans during the COVID-19 pandemic. Playbooks serve as summaries of individual and community needs relating to the COVID-19 pandemic and were developed in the areas of food security, healthcare, mental and behavioral health, childcare, connectivity, housing, vulnerable populations, and older youth. This summary focuses on needs related to mental and behavioral health. Information is provided on key concerns and solutions being implemented or proposed to address: telehealth, the mental health and social isolation of senior citizens, the increase in anxiety, the lack of capacity and the overburdening of the mental health workforce, EAP and support for the frontline workers, substance abuse, grief and loss in families, barriers that exist for people to access necessary services, workforce capacity related barriers to serve people impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic, and barriers around serving specific populations.
