This brief provides updates from citizen review panels (CRPs) in different States. This issue provides updates from Alaska, Delaware, Georgia, Hawaii, Idaho, Kentucky, Michigan, Missouri, Nevada, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin. Information is provided on major initiatives and accomplishments for 2017 that address efforts to: review analyses of child protection data, assist in the preparation of a Program Improvement Plan, institute a multidisciplinary response to child abuse and neglect, encourage collaboration among stakeholders in reducing sleep-related fatalities, evaluate foster parent training programs and kinship care supports and services, help children and families involved in the child welfare system achieve positive outcomes, educate the community on children left in hot vehicles, restructure in order to more accurately represent children and families in designated service regions, review child fatalities, review child and neglect cases, prevent the commercial sexual exploitation of children, examine how public child welfare agencies ensure timely mental health referrals for children in agency custody, examine the training for new child welfare caseworkers and supervisors and the impact on turnover, consider issues surrounding the recruitment and retention of foster and kinship families, consider opportunities and challenges facing local child protective services, and examine Adverse Childhood Experiences.
