This brief provides updates from citizen review panels (CRPs) in different States. This issue provides updates from Georgia, Kentucky, Michigan, Missouri, Nebraska, New York, Ohio, and Pennsylvania. It begins by describing the U.S. Children’s Bureau Champion Awards that honor those working to improve the overall health and well-being of children and families. Information is then provided on major initiatives and accomplishments for 2018 that address efforts to: understand the Family First Prevention Services Act, support and recognize community-based services workers, examine case file reviews and prepare findings and recommendations, train professionals on the issue of male sexual abuse, focus on the importance of keeping siblings connected while in foster care, advocate for increased funding and availability of home visiting services, investigate factors contributing to caseload size and turnover rate among child welfare workers, look at the opiate crisis and the process county child protection agencies go through in working these cases, understand how the child welfare system is funded and make recommendations for leveraging more funding, and train new panel members.
