The Nebraska Children and Families Foundation worked with its community partners and State and local governmental agencies to establish playbooks to help synthesize the emergent needs of Nebraskans during the COVID-19 pandemic. Playbooks serve as summaries of individual and community needs relating to the COVID-19 pandemic and were developed in the areas of food security, healthcare, mental and behavioral health, childcare, connectivity, housing, vulnerable populations, and older youth. This summary focuses on needs related to childcare. Information is provided on key concerns, possible solutions, and actions that have been taken to address: the loss of income that has led to closures and layoffs; finding available child care for parents who have to work; lack of access to updated information and needed supplies due to the COVID-19 pandemic; children in unsafe or unknown care arrangements; the loss of child care capacity available in the community; and miscellaneous family needs.
