This chapter discusses the case of pregnant addicted women and the responsibilities that they may have towards their future children. It is argued that while prenatal child protection is a morally important good, it is not enough to justify pressure and coercion against pregnant women. The tension between the protection of the fetus and a woman’s right to abortion is examined in court cases in the Netherlands, and the need to focus protection measures on the future child rather than the fetus is emphasized. 25 references.
