Drawing on qualitative research with South Sudanese families in Australia, this article demonstrates how shifting toward responsive regulatory practices in child protection can create a safe environment around children in immigrant families. Culture in the context of regulatory institutions and migrant communities is discussed, as well as intergenerational conflict in the context of refugee settlement, strategies for transforming parenting practices, and government intervention.
